The “J Word”

There was a lot of buzz the last couple of days over the song “Shout to the Lord”, sung by the American Idol contestants Tuesday night. The first line was changed from “My Jesus, my Savior” to “My Shepherd, my Savior”, which generated much discussion on the web. The iTunes version that was released had the line with “My Jesus” in it.

And tonight, on the results show, they performed it again, with the name of Jesus, right there in the opening of the #1 rated prime-time show. Kinda makes me wonder who decided to change it back, and why. However it happened, it was pretty cool seeing Jesus praised in prime time.

Hooked All Over Again

It happens every year, usually earlier than this, but the same scenario nonetheless: my first time back out on my bike. By God’s gracious provision, I was able to get my road bike tuned up in a real bike shop by a real “wrench”, and I just got back in from the first ride of the year. And even though it’s been months since I rode, and I only went 15 miles, and it wasn’t really pretty to watch (not that anyone was), I fell in love with cycling all over again; in fact, it happens every time I go out. If you’ve never tried it, I highly recommend it.

You don’t have to spend a fortune; just start with a good used bike that fits you and is in reasonable shape. There are plenty of places online to learn the basics for free. Not only is it good exercise, but it provides great uninterrupted time for praying and fellowship with God, as you enjoy the beauty of a country road and the rolling hills of Texas (or wherever you happen to live).
